Awful music
Blacks Beach San Diego 1984 Got pounded by clean up set about.15 to 20 feet. Never been held down so long. Another surfer was right, next to me, we both knew we were in trouble as we paddled for are life. I almost drown. It ended an epic day. Punta Cabra Mexico 1983. Waves were massive. 20 ft plus. I made bad decision took off on the first wave of the set, when I kicked out there were waves as far, I could see. The next wave broke in front of me, and I was held down and my leash broke. I was in the water floating like a cork. I called out to my buddy to help me, and he yelled back could not help me as he was paddling trying to get pass the set. I took a beating but finally he came back to help me get in. I really thought I was going to die. Hard to remember long time ago but at least 5 massive waves broke on me before I was rescues. Thankfully my board eventually washed to shore. It is for sure the scariest moment in my surf career, Pt Mugu CA. Not that hard to get out. Waves were so big that I was afraid to take off. Took me an hour before I was able to get to shore. I surfed the Red Triangle Northern California. Salmon Creek. Surfed their in college and most days the surf was too big to paddle out. Plus 2 people were attacked there by Great White Shark. I am 58 and live in NC and still surf. WE do not have big waves like that.

What's amazing is that Garrett McNamara and Ben Sanchis were able to keep their collective balance with such huuuuuuuge balls! Total respect for all of these surfers: they are athletes of the highest caliber.

One thing I noticed, along with the waves getting bigger over the years the guys balls also got bigger
