The sea at Nazaré is not just dangerous in surfing. Thousands of fishermen lost their lives to these waters over the year. As deadly as they are mesmerizing.

I was living in Lisbon when through work I ended up in Nazaré one day for the first time in 1996 with my sister in law. We watched these waves and were awe struck!! Terrifying just standing by that lighthouse!!!

Way back when this video surfaced there was a song to it and searching for that song till this day.
Every time I see this it makes me think about the Lituya bay mega tsunami. The wave in this video is insanely huge. But it's only 1/20th the size of the wave at Lituya bay. It's hard to even wrap my mind around that.
I get terrified by watching only a 2-3m tall wave from ground. Can't imagine being close to this, it's so unreal. Nature is powerful and scary

I’ve watched it 20 or more times and I still say “Holy shit!” Ever time
