Yeah I was born and raised in the country and out there for the entire 1969 giant surf!! I was 8 years old. Biggest surf I've ever seen in my life! Our beach house was severely damaged and our Boston whaler got pushed by a huge set about 100-150 yards inland and ended up 15 to 20 feet stuck up in a big tree!!!! Waimea was breaking so far out at sea it was mind blowing!! Kaena point had massive lefts lined up tubing top to bottom!!! Anyone remember the surfer magazine that came out after that and the photos? The center spread photo was taken with a telephoto lens of huge lefts stacked up outside kaena point by Greg Noll. The caption said some like "60, 70, 80, 90,… how big do you think this is?" Looked like just the biggest waves ever!!! Surfing and living in Hawaii my entire life, and seeing many of the biggest swells over the years, you know its really giant cause they waves look.like they are breaking in slow motion!!!!! The beach house next to ours was completely destroyed by one huge set. We were sand bagging our property, but when a huge set would start breaking way outside, we would have to run to our car, jump in and gun it heading inland. We'd have to wait for 15 to 20 minutes before we would try to drive back in the dirt road to our house, and it was just flooded with salt water everywhere way in from shore!!! The house next to ours just was an empty lot full.of 2×4's and splintered wood and debris!! The house was gone after one big set!! The bath tub was lying in the lot amongst the debris!!!! Pretty heavy for me being 8 years old, but my older brother and my dad and his friends and older guys were with us!!!! Greg Noll went to makaha and paddled out and rode a huge wave into where it was washing over the highway!!!! Historical swell, I'll never forget!!! So the El Nino event right now is forcadt to be one of the 5 strongest El Ninos since 1950 according to the weather service, and being December 2023 right now, it looks like it may get truly giant between now and the end of February!!!! Hang on!!!!!
