I love JJF, but that alley oop wasn't worth 9.97 on its own. Slater, Medina and Lopez have always had to combo that maneuver to get a 9 plus score. I am a surfing fan, but I feel like the judges these days are either misdirected or millenial. No sour grapes, because he is my favorite young surfer, but as a former competitor and judge, I fear the day when our sport becomes a one trick kind of thing.
