Big waves like a tsunami in Oahu, Hawaii. Dangerous big surf hits people on ‘The Eddie’ show

One of the world’s most prestigious and famous surfing contests, dubbed the “Super Bowl of Surfing”, was held Sunday in Hawaii for the first time in seven years with towering surf surfaces and giant waves expected to grow throughout the day.

This year, female surfers compete alongside male surfers for the first time in the 39 year history of The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational.

The event, known simply as The Eddie, is a one-day contest held at Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.

Earlier, the Weather Service issued a high surf warning through Monday afternoon for the north and west coasts facing the Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai coasts. The north facing coast of Maui and the outer west coast of the big island.

Extremely dangerous swells 25 to 40 feet high, except 12 to 16 feet along the west coast facing the Big Island.
