absolutely true.. my unplanned retirement is here in Nazare..small rental attached to my home means I too am unretired in Nazare…fall asleep to the sound of waves wake to a fabulous view of the sea..I left Canada in 2021..on my second residency card…
I am in Nazare now. This is my second visit in two weeks. Live here ❤
The beach in Nazare is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. The 1st time we were there, we were pressed for time; the 2nd time, there was a huge rainstorm. Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm?
Damn, I've retired in South Korea by mistake! Get me out of here!
A few corrections to the healthcare. When you apply for your visa, you need travel insurance with repatriation. When you get a residency permit, you need to have private health insurance. Portugal has a private and public system. The public system is excellent for critical and chronic care, but overburdened, so less urgent needs can take a really long time. Once you have residency, you can sign up for and use the public system, though I would strongly urge people not to do that, for a variety of reasons. At a private hospital or clinic, you'll find it much easier to get an English-speaking doctor, you will have shorter waits, too. And, you won't compete for the limited resources of the public system.
For costs, a lot depends on coverage. Not worth paying for vision or dental insurance, as rates for both are reasonable out of pocket. My wife and I (mid 50's) pay about $175 a month total for our private insurance. Doctor visits are about $20. Most tests are around $15-ish. For prescription meds, there is no private insurance. You either pay full retail, or once you have residency and get registered with the national health service, you pay those rates. Most meds have some cost to them, but a fraction of what I was paying in the US, even with very good health insurance. Depending on where you live, access to health services can actually be very easy, even if you don't speak Portuguese. Having easy access to private hospitals means you can access their English language websites and apps, find English speaking doctors, and book appointments. Living in a smaller town like Nazaré can be a challenge in this regard.
Azores islands , Madeira island are amazingly beautiful. Watch videos and….imagine…
From north to the south inland and coast, Portugal has a lot of beautiful, well cared, all the needs, towns, you don't know what you say! Portuguese is a charming country. 900 years History!
Didnt Portugal is introducing the digital civid ID?!
Yes Nazaré, Leiria, marinha grande is good place to stay
The Azores islands are also a spectacle of beauty. The island of Sao Miguel is so beautiful
Great interview. I wonder how much the guests purchase for their condo? We live in Braga. Things are more expensive now. I think to live comfortably for a single person $1,500
Very informative, enjoyed it except for continually calling these people “you guys”
Hi, I’m not sure I heard you mention that you need a one year lease qualify for the D7 visa ? Or maybe that Criteria has changed? Thank you for the information.
As long as there is somewhere I can go get an espresso in the morning and browse the web on my phone.
Thanks guys, very helpful information.
Can't think why you chose the worse possible place in Portugal to live
I'm portuguese from Algarve and live in France. Even if I'm not concerned as I have properties in Algarve, I find your video very informative. Thank you for the quality of this interview. Greetings.
Public healthcare in Portugal is hours of wait for the locals as well as the foreigners. It's a long wait as it's over crowded (the locals will tell you this). If you go to Private healthcare facilities, it's much easier, they get you in right away and spend time with you. I would just pay for private healthcare access. It's so much nicer, better service and quicker. And high quality doctors as well. 🙂
Portugal is a great country for a vacation. Nazareth is a beautiful small town. If somebody would move from New York, Chicago would not be happy. Quite boring after a while. Winter time inside is colder than outside. Make sure that try out at least a year before you move. Money is important that not everything. In small town people do not speak English. Bottom line is make sure that you can deal with all of the difficulties in Portugal. If you like it go for it.
Largest waves in the world. 🎉
Can you tell me if CANNABIS is a problem in Apartment buildings or neighbor to neighbor balconies terrasses etc. Because I'm allergic to it.
Hello. Thank you taking the time to make these videos. Could you please add income Taxes to your list of questions? I know in Portugal they have removed the Non habitual tax break, which I actually agree with, and that really affects you income. Thanks man. Cool hat
Sardines are very good for your health, up there with salmon. 🎉
I stayed in Nazare in 1988 , just a beautiful earthy place , friendly people narrow cobble stone streets , the elder Women dressed in traditional garb , 7 layers of petty coats and the Men in Wool with stocking caps . you hear 'Fado' ( Portuguese Blues ) sung by the Women doing their chores . I'm sure it has changed , like everywhere .
👍👍👍
