One of the most important moves to be able to do well. Having a good front-side bottom turn basically sets up your whole wave. In this video Barton Lynch runs through the mechanics of how to do technically perfect forehand bottom turn.

Okay. This drill is the front side bottom turn. The most important
manoeuvre in surfing and the idea is to get as low as you can, get that
back arm trailing, touching the water or the road in this case, let’s get
that front arm cocked, throw it across the body to project out of the turn.

So let’s give it a go.

Set it up, get down low, get that hand down and project out of the bottom
turn.

Okay. The things to remember for the front side bottom turn. Compress and
get as low as you possibly can into the turn. Have that back hand touching
the water or in this case the bitumen, have your front arm cocked ready to
throw. As you extend out of the turn, throw that front arm across your body
and that’ll project you up into the lip for the best reo you’ve ever done.
