In this landscape photography video, I faced one of the toughest challenges any photographer can encounter—photographer’s block. After travelling an hour and a half to Petrel Cove, I arrived just before dawn, excited for the shoot ahead. But as soon as I parked up, something strange happened. I found myself completely paralysed, unable to summon the motivation to get out of the car. It was a battle of wills, and for a moment, I wondered if I’d ever capture a single shot.
Eventually, I pushed myself to give it a go, and what a relief it was! The moment I got into action, my creativity began to flow again. Petrel Cove’s stunning rocky formations, stretching out into the surf, were a sight to behold. The gentle morning light and the rolling waves were perfect for both shorter exposures and those dreamy long exposure shots. This experience reminded me that sometimes, the hardest part is simply getting started.
I specialise in large format print focusing on creating fine art images best viewed on a wall.

Thanks Izzy, beautiful images as usual, I wish my photographer's block resulted in such lovely pictures.
The image at around 14 minutes is superb, I'm envious. Another enjoyable video and sometimes we just need a few minutes. The quality of the GFX is awesome, but it's not the gun, it's the gunner that produces the images.
I really enjoy that soft, pastel light you get at the coast sometimes. makes for soothing images 🙂
Another great video! May I ask what monitor is connection to the camera on the hotshoe? Thanks!
We've all had those 'what am I doing here?' moments, especially if conditions are less than ideal. I' glad you overcame it and the conditions actually worked out beautifully. Lovely images throughout. Thanks for sharing and have a great week
Why all the sky..? I would get down lower, much happening in the foreground. It would more interesting for the viewer. Just a thought
We all feel like that times mate you just come back from a lovely holiday and you getting early to film for us must get tiring at times …just want you to know we do appreciate the time and effort to teach us and if you feel you need a break we will understand just pls not a permanent one we miss you too much.
what camera Sir? thank you, this is perfection.
Thx for sharing Izzy, great video again, love watching them.😍👍
It's the getting out even during the day which is my style
I am so glad you got your butt out of the car. What a fantastic location and that Sky was so pastel.
Nice one Izzy well done on getting out that can be the hardest part. Well worth it beautiful images and great location, thank you 👍
You really shouldn’t feign misery, you were as happy as a pig in the proverbial by the end…a little ennui once in a while is human, and we all know your last shot is always going to be a stunner
Nothing short of brilliant Izzy, great location, great commentary, nice soft music and great images. ps: appreciate the info on the 6400 trick, can't wait to try it. I just had to pick a favourite and I thought the image at 17:20 was amazing. I'm sure the image at 8:25 should say 4 min??? not sec, is that correct? Thank you Izzy for providing a really enjoyable video, have a great week and stay safe.
Beautiful imagery as always Izzy and thanks a lot for the recap on the 6400 rule, explained perfectly.
Beautiful Izzy
Hi, thank you for sharing your morning adventure. Loved the water and beautiful rock compositions, when you showed the preliminary view of the first composition I loved the flow of the water rushing back out, but then when your shot showed the long exposure I appreciated how it all came together and a fast exposure showing the movement would have made the effect far too busy and it would have lost that ethereal pastel slo-mo early morning experience .Always learning. Thanks for getting up, getting out and taking those beautiful shots. Have a great week.
Ach these things happen but always good to see what you shoot. It's always worth it when you get the camera out thought!
Do you find the 20-35 has changed your outlook or is it what you always wanted?
Thank you once again Izzy and Raffy! I missed his antics with his rocks!! Another lesson learned – 6400 rule – wow! how easy is that one!!! I am going to use it next time. Thanks for sharing your moment in the doldrums too – we all get them, some more so. But stunning images as always, can't beat the ocean to keep on giving…Wonderful start to my week. See you next sunday. Of course an extra cuddle for Raffy too
Fabulous captures on a stunning i. I can understand your lethargy…….I had that Saturday morning! I'd shifted 3 cubic meters of firewood during the week (with help from Leonie), so instead of getting up at 4.00am, and with a forecast of zero cloud, I slept in. The first intentional sunrise miss in years. Thanks for the iso 6400 guide. It certainly has come in handy. Very nice to see your assistant running around helping you in this video 😁
Not surprising that you would have the occasional hiccup since you are out there so much! Thanks for being so genuine and transparent about it. Beautiful results as always!
Love long exposure black and white photography. Love the tip on the iso 6400. Always learn something from you Izzy.
