I’m at Doheny this weekend to see if it’s more crowded than Malibu.

Doho was this crowded even back in the summer of’87, yet not so crowded in’73
Yep… And not even close to being as good.
That's the one where the waves aren't even worth snaking someone over.
The sport has just exploded and not worth the hassle any longer. Stressful, chaotic, scary, volatile insanity🤷♀️🤷♀️. Not worth it
So many surfers so few waves
Killer Dana 🤦
Never!!
Imagine if there were waves lol
Best beginner wave in socal?
Wow, there are so many places to surf around that area that are 100ntimes better. Monkey see monkey do.
Ironically, for surfers who expand their interests into other ocean sports like offshore distance paddles on a racing ocean SUP, Dana Point Harbour is one of the best places to do it! A little common sense obviously says “surfing” in that hot mess is an absolute waste of time. I’ve paddled right out of the Harbour passing crowds like this on flat days at Doheney, making a run to Cottons Point or SC Pier and back, and just laughed at all them sitting there waiting (for what 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️… a knee-slapper party wave? 😂). It’s too bad so many surfers are closed-minded and would mock the idea of SUP distance paddling as a clearly valid alternative on a day like this. They have little awareness of the all-around watermen who shaped the sport of surfing—and who definitely wouldn’t be sitting in that crowd.
Good thing there's no waves. Not as crowded as Malibu, but still to crowded. Do you younger people know that before the breakwater was built for the harbor, doheny was a world-class surf break!
I believe its one of the dirtiest, or was at one time, the dirtiest wave as well. BTW, thats roughly half maybe just over half of a crowded day at Doheny.
I don't know why anyone would bother going there. I'm glad they do though, better them there than anywhere else
No not a point mebe?
Ah, Doheny. I caught my first wave there on an old 9'6" Takayama. Wore jean shorts because I didn't own a pair of trunks yet. 50/50 rails and no leash helped thin out the crowd a bit.
I think the point at San O is even more crowded
No.
People are way more chill.
It looks bad but I’m convinced that on crowded days like this, probably more than half the people aren’t even catching waves. Most of the people are not even putting themselves in the right spot to even catch the wave so it probably isn’t that bad. The worst part is when I would go in every single day no matter how the waves are but the one day that the waves are somewhat good everyone is in there.
Good job, Brad, putting Doheny in the mix. 😎🏄♂️🎣 Kneeboard Champ "73"
Everybody surfs….
For sure! Do you know Ribeira dilhas Portugal??😆🌊🤟
No, not at all because peaks are spread out for people to go straight. No problem.
Unlike at Malibu it’s usually long down the line waves.
Tear down the wall!
Only go dohoney if ur a beginner it’s crowded and everyone catches party waves and u won’t be able to shred ur own wave. Plus it rarely gets bigger then 3ft there
