Snapper Rocks is not the easiest place to score a wave if your not a regular behind the rock. The last two weeks of good swell brought every surfers to Coolangatta trying to score the wave of their life. Many did and many got burnt by an accidental drop in. But there were a few locals who were just damn intent on taking any wave they wanted, even by force.

This is what happens when nobody is regulating the lineup. One well-respected local could paddle out and change the entire vibe so everyone (who's in the right spot and waited their turn) can get a wave.
Definitely all the Brazilians that have taken over snapper have made it more hostile
Problem is the youth doesn’t give respect because they haven’t been taught to. And complain about the old guys. But the flip side of that coin is the old guard thinks they should be given respect because of their age and time in the sport. And complain about the young guys. To both the young and old, you have to give respect in order to be able to receive it. All these people in the water talking about Karma, but no one seems to practice it.

It's always that urge you see acting like this one the beach. Funny thing is you never see them on the tour. They think they're professional Surfers and they're just jackasses.
They should call this beach jerk-off Beach. Where I live punks that cut people off and act like a jackass generally end up with flat tires. I'm 60 years old and have been surfing all my life. It seems the older I get the Dumber the Surfers get. I used to be a lot more fun. There's something with the younger generation that just doesn't make sense to normal people.

Yeah, it brought out the worst in me, trying to get along with the selfish dickheads, and finally went on to other things. About twenty years ago I saw a guy on a Harley on the freeway in Honolulu with a chrome machete strapped to his back. Everyone was giving him plenty of room, and my thought was, shit, why didn't I think of that back in the day.

I surfed for many years in the seas here in Brazil, I never had this local nonsense, I think it's silly, there are waves for everyone and it costs nothing to wait

Talk about not enjoying waves. I get people showing up and being disrespectful…but being so focused on just dropping in to cut someone off and then drop off the wave is stupid.

The idea of trying to enforce some sort of localism at Snapper is laughable. Your about 25 years too late. Remember also a bully always gets theirs in the end.

I grew up Pacific Palisades and we had local break but never would are local guys ever allow or participate in behavior like witnessed on this clip. This is how people get hurt.

as a 48 year old dad with kids wanting to get into surfing these videos scare the crap out of me…the worst ones are were people actually challenge the locals as they then turn into a pack…… luckily i have been with the kids 6 times now (yeah they talked me into it….) and everybody we have met has been super helpful and been nothing but supportive…. we dont have the best waves in the world…. but i think i would let that go for a good community and people who seem to care…..people get stoked when others catch a good one…. thats part of the fun around here !!!!!
