The biggest swell of the year just hit Bali, and Uluwatu was feeling every part of the Indian ocean’s energy.
The Bombie had the biggest sets and some big mean sections. There were some tow-ins but it was mostly paddle power out there and Outside Corner.
With a relatively well behaved SE trade wind, the action was non-stop all day with a big crowd of people lining the cliff at Uluwatu to take in the show.
We’re already late in the season for waves like this, so this will likely take the prize for the biggest day of 2022, but September can still produce meaningful swells, so you never know.

That last takeoff was incredible, right on the peak, freakish.
I surfed Bali once back in the 30s, it was a once in 2 life time storm the waves rolled in at 65ft that day. It was a 6 hour paddle at from the bay around the headlands on 18ft toothpick board, you would paddle out catch one wave and barley make it home for dinner,
Johnny Hopkins was so rich he attached an outboard and let it sink to the bottom out behind the breakers, legend has it he caught 2 waves in 1 day

Goddammit, just spent 3 weeks in Bali, surf barely went over 4 feet the entire time. 2 days after I get home back to Aus this arrives, FFS!!! Wouldn't have surfed it but have always wanted to see giant Ulus, have only seen it at 6' to 8' & the poster sized photo I took that day has pride of place on the wall over my PC screen, needs updating.
