The ocean is so clear and beautiful, but scary. The ocean is a very unpredictable part of God's creations.

When I was 11 yrs old my family and I went to the beach. We got there around 9am after a two hour drive. This was 1973. I helped my mother throw out a big blanket near the dunes and then ran back to the car in the parking lot. Grabbed the potato salad and took it to her. Then I ran back to the car to get the fruit punch,, but instead I grabbed my little rubber old inner tube I had kept at my grandfather's gas station I have been preparing for this day. That was the last time anyone saw me till the next day around noon. I ran past my mom and family full speed strait into the gulf of Mexico. I ran into the small waves then kicking my legs up higher till I could not feel the bottom and then slid the inner tube over my head and arms through it so my head was sticking out the top and arms hanging over the sides. And then noticed that the waves where gone and I was going up high on the swells then dropping down them very quickly. And it got very windy. Then when the swells stopped and the winds showed I could just see the shore as a tiny line dividing the ocean from the sky and then only moments later that disappeared. From around 10 pm that day till around noon the next day, I had floated 114 miles out into the gulf of Mexico and 46 north of where my family was. My story is one of sheer horror, but here are a few things I'll say and that's is my inner tube had no less than 8 or 9 old rubber patches on it, I got so sunburned I was told it was one of the worst sunburned skin the doctor ever seen. Most of my dark brown hair turned white, and I was scared into shock most the times bad things happened to me, lots of bad things, but I told this my story for this reason only and that is that when the sun went down till it came back up was so scary that I have not ever gone back or near the ocean or any big lakes or rivers. That was 50 years ago. Oh and when they found me and mom (who I loved dearly) grabbed me from the paramedics and would not let go of me for 6 hours I heard. I passed out when I saw her. And woke up in a burn ward in Galveston tx. I was a 11 yr old little boy all day but nothing prepared me for the dark moonless cloudy cold night out there. And the things that go bump in the night.

The sea is terrifying that is why we descended from the sea to be able to evolve on land, we are terrified by the mere fact that we do not know how rough it can get from one moment to the next
