The World Dog Surfing Championship was held on the beach of Pacifica, California. The pandemic put a hold on the international competition for more than two years but this past week thousands turned out. During the event, dog surfers and their human pals competed for gold and for charity.

This is a point of view from a former dog(s) owner.
I was out at Linda Mar beach to photograph the surfing contest. I ended up standing in the water in order to get decent shots of the dogs. After one hour of shooting, I started to have shivers, so I had to quit. The water was very cold. Those dogs were cold and miserable. Since I was in close proximity to the dog surfers, I did not observe any shivering from the dogs. Most of the dogs learned to keep a low center of gravity(crouching) in order to stay on boards. The dogs were experienced surfers. It was safe to say that more than half of spectators were dog owners as they brought their pets. Everybody cheered on. I did not observe any protesters. I left a comment to the surf organizers suggesting they move the venue to warmer waters.
