I was lucky enough to spend a summer surfing at Border Field State Park in San Diego, back in the early 80's. There had been a bad winter storm that formed a great sand bar at Border Field, and we started surfing there regularly to avoid crowds at other beaches. After a few days, a large school of dolphins came to hang out at Border Field. When we surfed, you would have 5 or 6 dolphins all around you on each wave. When you would paddle out, you would paddle out past momma dolphins feeding their babies. It was one of the coolest summers ever. Oh, the main dolphin (big guy in charge) did not look like flipper. This dolphin was huge and was totally scared up from many fights over the years. He was an impressive creature.
